The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Janet McClure can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Memories of Janet and Slats

Janet was a one of a kind woman, with a unique perspective on the world that she never hesitated to share. She was my mother in law, and the mother in law - son in law relationship is naturally one that doesnt immediately bring the two parties to an eye to eye basis. Nevertheless, Janet made it easy to be honest with her because she was always honest with other people. One never had to guess what her opinion was about things because she didnt hide it. She also never flaunted it, and treated everybody equally even if you didnt necessarily agree with her. She was an excellent mom to Susan and Becky, and was an excellent grandmother and great grandmother to Sarah, Kyle, their spouses Josh and Lauren, and little Oliver. To me and Glenn, she was an excellent mother in law, and was always quick to express gratitude to us, and to all. In recent months, Janet needed more help than usual, and she made sure you understood her appreciation for your help. Most of all, Janet was a great wife to Slats, a man she adored and took care of until he passed in the fall of 2015. She was so proud of him for being a Cincinnati cop - he was an old school policeman who was not just a protector, he was a the kind of man who looked out for the least of his brothers and sisters, but who was also a no nonsense kind of cop that you had no choice but to respect. Together Janet and Slats raised a great family, with kids and grandkids who reflect back wonderfully on them. They both were trememdously kind to me and my family, and I thank them for the great example they set for their kids and extended family. I already miss them, and am happy hat they've been reunited on the other side.
