Obituary for Paul H. Feist

Paul H. Feist, 95, of Cincinnati, Ohio, husband of LaVerne (Kramer) Feist, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022. He is survived by his children Cynthia (Jack) Sproehnle, David (Kelly) Feist, Jay (Lisa) Feist, and the late Alisa Feist. Loving grandfather of Erin (Josh) Smith, April (Jake) Punch, Ryan, Nathan, Emma, and Connor. Great-grandfather of Lilly Smith. Dear brother of the late Florence Rose.
Paul grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the Army in World War II, being stationed primarily in Texas, and continued on after the war in the Civil Service and the Army Reserves until 1985. He worked for a sporting goods company after the War, and eventually started his 43 year career with the Post Office, working in Newtown, the Annex(downtown Cincinnati), and Westwood…and each year, he would man the temporary post office in the Western Woods Mall.
Anyone who knew him, knew a friend. He was always fascinated with everyone’s story, and listened intently...this had the side-effect of his constantly being a bit late for things…as nothing was more important than the person who was sharing stories with him...this trait is part of what endeared him to many.
He met LaVerne, and she loved him, in spite of his habit of taking her on dates to watch Trains. He loved Wine, Wine conferences – attending, volunteering, talking about wine and bottling wine at Henke.
He loved to travel, see new places, and was proud of visiting all 50 states.
Reading…the man would read anything, and was particularly interested by articles which brought him new knowledge. He loved crazy country roads, and the dipsy doodles that went with them.
Birds and wildlife were a passion for Paul, participating in the Annual Audubon Bird Count, and building brush piles for wildlife on the farm. He would allow hunters on the property, making them promise not to shoot any birds. Hiking in the Smoky Mountains (Cades Cove, Mt. Leconte, etc.) was a constant, and provided a path to rejuvenate after a serious car accident.
He loved the Theater and live (comedy) performances, as was his habit for always falling asleep in the middle of a family gathering.
He will be desperately missed.

A public memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4th, 10:30am at St. Catharine of Siena Church, Cincinnati, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice…Just be passionate about it…that would be Paul’s wish.
