Obituary for Harold Joseph Rengering

Harold “Snow” Rengering beloved husband for 63 years of the late Roberta “Berta” Rengering (nee Ahr). Loving father of Steve (Karla), Randy (Tracey), Nick (Tina), Michael, and Ken (Eva) Rengering, and Janet (Ed) Robben and Melissa (Jeremy) Reed. Devoted grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 14 plus 3 on the way. Dear brother of Mary Catherine (Richard) Zahneis and the late Herbert, Robert, and Ralph Rengering and Loraine Schenkel.

Snow passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the age of 88. He grew up in Camp Washington and graduated from Roger Bacon High School in 1951. In 1953, Snow enlisted into the US Army. He proudly served as a Paratrooper in the elite 82nd Airborne. January of 55, he married the love of his life, Roberta Ahr, at St. Clements Catholic Church in St. Bernard. Upon Snow’s honorable discharge in the fall of that same year, the newlyweds returned to Cincinnati where they set up house and began to raise their family. In December of the next year, Snow followed the lead of his brothers, Herb and Ralph, and brother-in-law Bob Schenkel, and entered the Cincinnati Fire Service. In short order, he was promoted to lieutenant and then spent most of his career at Engine 29 in the West End.

For many years, Snow competed with and coached the Cincinnati Fire Division A Softball Team. While on the team, he won the batting title several times at the World Industrial Tournament. He was also a fierce competitor in the game of table tennis, often playing alongside his brother, Ralph. Additionally, he was instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the Sunshine Club. For 33 years, Snow was a dedicated public servant to the people of Cincinnati, retiring from the department in July of 1989.

Even in his retirement, Snow kept himself busy by maintaining the grounds of his condominium community. He enjoyed spending time puzzling, playing games at the casino, attending his grandkids’ sporting events and family gatherings. It was evident to all that Snow’s true passion in life was his family.

Family will receive friends Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church, 10010 Carolina Trace Rd., Harrison, Ohio 45030. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597 or Cincinnati Fire Museum, 315 West Court St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.
