Obituary for Jerry Allen Taylor Jr.

Jerry A Taylor, Jr age 50 passed away Friday, April 8 at home surrounded by family and the cats he adored. Devoted husband to Connie Schmitt, beloved Son of Janice and Gerald Ludewig and Jerry and Debbie Taylor, brother to Robert Taylor (Brittany) and step-brother to Adam Sebastian (Megan), Nephew to Jim (deceased) Van Pelt (Nancy), Cindy Goodman, John Van Pelt (Terry Wilson) and Jackie Werner (Robert). Cousin and Uncle to many. Jerry was a generous and compassionate soul who made friends easily and saw the best in people. He was a long-time friend and mentor to Jamal Wilson.

Jerry was a proud graduate of the School for Performing Arts in Cincinnati and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from the University of Oregon.

After receiving his Masters, Jerry moved back to Cincinnati and went on to a long-term career as a financial advisor. He cared deeply about his clients and their families and became friends with so many throughout his career.

Fierce fan of the Grateful Dead and Phish as well as all Rock and Roll music, Jerry went to as many concerts as possible. Although he didn’t learn to play an instrument, he was a master at air guitar and knew the lyrics to every song and didn’t hesitate to belt them out along with the music.

Jerry loved classic cars and enjoyed working on them and cruising around the city. At heart through it was the connection he made with other people over cars that continued to fuel his passion. He loved nothing more than listening to people recount their stories of old cars from years past. On the weekends you could find Jerry at the garage working on any number of car projects, spending time with family and friends, hiking around the Cincinnati Nature Center or learning to sail in pursuit of his dream to eventually sail around the world. Jerry was a member of Crossroads and strong believer in volunteering his time and energy to help others around him. Jerry loved all animals (but especially cats) and was a volunteer on the Cincinnati Zoo’s Animal Enrichment Team and a long-time volunteer at Save the Animals Foundation.

Jerry gave of himself freely in life and in death. He generously donated his brain to further research in glioblastoma and other brain cancers. If you knew Jerry you were blessed to know the joy and energy he brought to those around him.

Family will receive friends Friday, April 15th from 10am until time of service at 12pm (NOON) at Crossroads Church Oakley, 3500 Madison Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45209.
