CINCINNATI - Peter Wehrend, age 80 of Cincinnati died on November 20, 2021. Beloved husband for 59 years to Mary Anne (nee Connolly). Loving father of Juliane Peckinpaugh (nee Wehrend). Proud grandfather of Caitlin Jade Peckinpaugh and his son in law, Sean Michael Peckinpaugh. Brother of Ute Steinke and his niece, Martina Brandt and nephew, Thomas Steinke. Brother in law of Donald and Carol Connolly and his niece, Amy and her husband, Chris Hill, and his nephew, Brian and his wife, Natalia along with grand nephews, Edison, Beckett, and Stas and grand niece, Emily. Brother in law of the late, Robert Connolly. Also survived by many loving grand nieces, cousins, and friends.
Peter was a member of the Grand Lodge of F & AM of Ohio, ET Carson Lodge No. 0598, F.& A. M., ET Carson Glee Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Thirty Second Degree, Syrian Shriners Cincinnati, Ohio, Shriners International, and Calvary Episcopal Church, Past Junior Warden.
As project architect, he worked on a wide range of projects: commercial, industrial, health care systems, zoos, offices, theater, and museum restorations. A team member of several award winning projects including the Cincinnati Art Museum, Union Terminal, 525 Vine Building, SLDC Savings and Loan Data Office Building. Constructions administrator for the Alms and Doepke Building, University of Cincinnati College of Applied Science, Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County Expansion, Music Hall Renovation, The Cincinnati Zoological Society and Botanical Gardens, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Proudly retired from the field of Architecture, Senior Associate for GBBN Architects.
Peter immigrated from Lubeck, Germany and became a United States citizen. He finished his high school education at Western Hills High School, Cincinnati in 1959. He entered the 6 year Architectural Program at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1967. During his 38 years he worked at several local Architectural firms on many notable projects.
On retirement, he joined and led the AA meetings for We Care Group Cincinnati, Cheviot twice a week for several years.
His favorite pastime was sailing his Hobie Cat sailboat on the Atlantic Ocean on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina. He also would love to go surf fishing from the beach at his favorite vacation home on Hatteras Island, North Carolina, Outer Banks. He would enjoy plein air painting with his wife, Mary Anne, Walter Connolly, Frank Panabaker and Bud Barlage. Places that he has painted were in Tucson, Arizona and Georgian Bay Islands in Ontario, Canada.
Throughout his life, he loved walking his dogs every day, especially his female Rottweiler named Antje.
Many friends and relatives will miss his German stories.
