Obituary

GILL, Eric J. “Rick
Left us too soon on January 20, 2020 at the age of 71.
Beloved partner and soul-mate of Paula; cherished parent and mentor to Missy, Michelle, Abbie, Jeremy, and the late Rachael. Papa to Brooklyn, Angel, Aubrianna, Chris, Austin, Noah, Mikey and Cameron. Papa-Rick to Baby Rachael "Rae". Caring brother to Linda and uncle to Stacy, Hannah and Zach. Best friend and kindred spirit to Jim. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen.
Rick loved all kinds of music (especially Sinatra, Bocelli and jazz trombone), good steaks and pasta, and his family. His adventures with Jim were legendary. Rick was an ardent supporter of Roger Bacon High School and the University of Cincinnati. He was also an avid reader and political news-junkie whose vast amount of knowledge, intuition and empathy helped him win every case he represented during his stellar career as a prosecuting attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. Proud of his Irish and Romanian heritage, he and Paula did extensive genealogy research and were planning a trip to Ireland.
May the road rise up to meet you, Rick!
Family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 am until time of funeral services at 11:30am at the Norwood Christian Church, 4400 Ashland Ave., Norwood. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations if desired may be made to the Roger Bacon High School Band, 4320 Vine Street
Cincinnati, Ohio 45217. info@rogerbacon.org

Rick was a delight to know. He was well-read, and we could have conversations on most any subject. He will be missed. May his spirit visit the places of his ancestors he had always wanted to see, and then may he find eternal peace. Ursula

Rick was a long-time friend and colleague at the NLRB. In 1985, the Agency sent us to New Orleans for a training session. We explored the city enjoying its food and culture. We attended the Jazz and Heritage Festival where we saw so many performers among them Leo Kottke, Wynton Marsalis and Miles Davis. In 1988, Rick and I went to Los Angeles (my first visit) and enjoyed the beaches and the city. I didn't know that Rick didn't make hotel reservations in advance. I think we stayed at different places each night we were in town. One time, we were having drinks at the Beverly Hills hotel and Warren Beatty walked by and said hello. I asked Rick where we were going to stay that night. Rick replied "be right back." He returned laughing and placed a key down on the table. He got us a bungalow at the hotel! When Rick's idol Frank Sinatra came to Cincinnati, he was probably first in line for tickets. We got to see Frank along with Sammy Davis Junior. Very happy memories about Rick. He will be missed.

Michael & Linda Costa

I remember fondly my brother Tim and I having a ball with Rickie (as we knew him then) and his sister Linda at Costa (Rick's mother's side) gatherings, especially the Christmas Eve gatherings, when we were youngsters. The four of us were the eldest of what would become a sizable group of cousins and we got along famously. Unfortunately, I lost touch with Rick over the next fifty years, That is not unusual I guess for cousins who come to live in different parts of the country. It was our cousin Nancy who took the initiative over the last few years to bring the cousins back together for gatherings, which have turned out to be great fun and rewarding. Here we met Rick's partner and soul-mate Paula, who instantly became a valued part of our group. Unfortunately, the gatherings have come to a very premature end for Rick. We miss you Rick, greatly. Mike and Linda Costa made a donation to the Roger Bacon Band.
