Condolence: To dear Lou’s family, accept my condolences for your loss. I have met Lou in Ilmenau, Germany. We were in the same class learning German. Once when we were in front of the classroom waiting for our German teacher to come, we were looking at the map of the world. I have said I felt homesick (it was my first time away that far and that long from my home and family). He showed me to the map and said: "But look, you are so close to your home! Closest than me, closest than Mariano (our friend from Argentina)". I smiled at that. Yes, I was in the same continent. With small (but big) comments like that, he helped me showing a different, positive view on things. I feel honored to have met him and known him, as he was a great friend, a truly good human and a kind person. My heart and soul are with the family. I will miss him. Sincerely, Katarina Baćević from Niš, Serbia

Condolence: Deepest sympathy to the Meiners family. I worked with Dr. Meiners at the office for many, many years. He touched so many people with his compassion and kindness. I know he holds a special place in people hearts as he does in mine. I am sorry I did not make it to the visitation due to living out of town. I had not seen him in several years but will never forget his smiling face. He will be missed by all of us. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Condolence From: Ray and Judy Feldman
Condolence: Judy and I extend our sympathy to the Meiners family.

Although Lou and I first met during the freshman year at St. Gregory Seminary High School, the name Meiners was a familiar name around our house as I was growing up. Lou's grandmother, Lucy Meiners, was active in St. Teresa parish, as was my mother, and Mom always talked highly of Lucy Meiners .

Whether at St. Greg's, or St. Ignatius, or at class reunions, I don't recall ever seeing Lou not smiling, a sign of a man at peace with himself. Perhaps he inherited that from his grandmother, Lucy. And perhaps that's what kept him looking so young in recent decades compared with all the rest of us.

It's sad news to know we'll miss seeing Lou, yet it's a sigh of relief to know his suffering is over. I'm confident he is now smiling and enjoying the presence of Jesus.

Eternal rest grant unto Lou, O Lord,
and may he shine in the Perpetual Light of Jesus, Our Savior.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Condolence From: Jeremy Sicking
Condolence: I was one of the many babies delivered by Dr. Meiners. Although I didn't not personally know him well, his goodness was evident based on what a wonderful person he raised in his son Shaun. I went to school with Shaun for many years. Shaun always treated me well and respected me. My condolences to Shaun and all of his family.

Condolence: My deepest sympathy to Dr. Meiners’ entire family. He was a very kind and patient man. I was fortunate to have him as my doctor. He delivered two of our four children, but he saw me saw me through all four high risk pregnancies. I will never forget him. You will be in my prayers. Karen Rathman

Condolence: I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Meiners. He was truly a wonderful person, a caring doctor and a gentle man. I met him upon the birth of my second child. We were in the delivery room and he asked me about the whereabouts of my husband. The sad story was that my husband was also a patient on the surgical floor (just out of the ICU). Dr. Meiners immediately left the room and came back a short time later. He was so thoughtful and caring that he went to the nurses’ station on my husband’s floor to inquire about bringing him to the delivery room in a hospital bed. Unfortunately, my husband was too ill. After the birth, he made up a picture board of me holding our new baby. He also composed a short note to my husband as if written from our daughter. He is the most respected, caring doctor I have ever encountered. To this day I still feel that way. He will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to you, Mrs. Meiners, and all your family. You are all in my prayers.

Condolence From: Brenda Kopec
Condolence: My sincere sympathy to the family. Dr. Meiners was my long time ob-gyn for many years, and I gasped out loud seeing his obituary today in the Enquirer. SO sorry to hear the passing of such a great man, great doctor, and blessing to the community. I started going to him in the mid-late 70's. He was my definite FAVORITE in the Boiman, Rave & Meiners group. Unfortunately, both times, he was not on call when the babies came. I will always remember April 1, 1980....I was there for a pregnancy test, he walked in the door and said "congratulations Mrs. Kopec"! Being April's fool day, I thought he was kidding! I truly admired him and his soft spoken voice, his genuine concern, and soft humor. Heaven surely got a angel on his arrival. My deepest sympathy, Brenda Kopec.
