Louis Pierre Meiners, M.D., J.D., age 73, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018. Louis is the devoted husband of 49 years to Elizabeth “Libby” Meiners (nee Krusling), and loving father to Tracy Meiners Umberg (Tom), Jeff Meiners, Shaun Meiners (Suzanne Partridge, M.D.), Michael Meiners (Laura), and Elizabeth “Betsy” Meiners (Jeffrey Fuller). He is also the beloved “Papa” of 10, including Koyote “Kiki” Meiners-Rios, Max and Siena Umberg, Luke, Ava, Griffin and Owen Meiners, and Gabriela “Gabby”, Marley, and George Meiners.
Dr. Meiners deceased parents are Louis George and Esther (nee Schneider) of Western Hills, and is survived by his sister Elaine Westrich (Ray), and brothers Daniel (Mary) and Richard “Rick” (Jenny).
Louis graduated from St. Gregory’s Seminary in 1963. Upon graduation, he studied pre-medicine at Xavier University. Lou then went on and obtained his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, and went on to have a long career in Obstetrics and Gynecology there.
A life-long learner, Louis went back to school mid-career to study law at the University of Cincinnati while working full-time, and graduated with a J.D. degree in 1989. It was noted that during this time, Dr. Meiners delivered the most babies in Cincinnati.

So sad to learn of Lou's passing I just got this news he was my Chief Resident at Good Sam from 1973-74 and was always compassionate. knowledgeable and gentle with his junior residents. I have deep respect for him. My condolences to his family Alpha Allan Seales, M.D.

To dear Lou’s family, accept my condolences for your loss. I have met Lou in Ilmenau, Germany. We were in the same class learning German. Once when we were in front of the classroom waiting for our German teacher to come, we were looking at the map of the world. I have said I felt homesick (it was my first time away that far and that long from my home and family). He showed me to the map and said: "But look, you are so close to your home! Closest than me, closest than Mariano (our friend from Argentina)". I smiled at that. Yes, I was in the same continent. With small (but big) comments like that, he helped me showing a different, positive view on things. I feel honored to have met him and known him, as he was a great friend, a truly good human and a kind person. My heart and soul are with the family. I will miss him. Sincerely, Katarina Baćević from Niš, Serbia

Deepest sympathy to the Meiners family. I worked with Dr. Meiners at the office for many, many years. He touched so many people with his compassion and kindness. I know he holds a special place in people hearts as he does in mine. I am sorry I did not make it to the visitation due to living out of town. I had not seen him in several years but will never forget his smiling face. He will be missed by all of us. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Judy and I extend our sympathy to the Meiners family. Although Lou and I first met during the freshman year at St. Gregory Seminary High School, the name Meiners was a familiar name around our house as I was growing up. Lou's grandmother, Lucy Meiners, was active in St. Teresa parish, as was my mother, and Mom always talked highly of Lucy Meiners . Whether at St. Greg's, or St. Ignatius, or at class reunions, I don't recall ever seeing Lou not smiling, a sign of a man at peace with himself. Perhaps he inherited that from his grandmother, Lucy. And perhaps that's what kept him looking so young in recent decades compared with all the rest of us. It's sad news to know we'll miss seeing Lou, yet it's a sigh of relief to know his suffering is over. I'm confident he is now smiling and enjoying the presence of Jesus. Eternal rest grant unto Lou, O Lord, and may he shine in the Perpetual Light of Jesus, Our Savior. May he rest in peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
