Obituary for Richard Henry "Dick" Johnson

Richard "Dick" Henry Johnson passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at West Chester Hospital after a short illness. He was born on August 18, 1927 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Melvin and Ruth (nee Nalhbom) Johnson. He served in the United States Navy during the later years of World War II and in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Cincinnati. He worked as a machinist for the Globe Wernicke Company and the National Lead Company of Ohio. In his later years, he taught in the Mount Healthy Local School District as a fifth-grade teacher. In retirement, he was a Customer Service driver for Lexus of Cincinnati.
Richard married the late Martha Jean Carter on July 31, 1953. They were married for sixty-three years. They are survived by three children, R L (Dorothy) Johnson, Mark S. Johnson, and Kay Ann (Gregory Rouan) Johnson, seven grandchildren, Alex, Matt, BJ, Rusty, Cara, Connor, and Mollie and eight great-grandchildren.
He was a longtime member of the Miamitown Church of Christ and Christ’s Church at Mason. He was a sixty-five-year award member of the Columbia Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Seven Hills School 5400 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH or Mason Christian Village Benevolence Fund. A memorial/remembrance service is planned for the future.
