Obituary for
Martha Jean Johnson
Martha Jean (nee Carter) Johnson passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at West Chester Hospital.
Born on April 16, 1933 in Dayton, Kentucky to the late Edward and Edna Blanche Carter. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1950 from the University of Cincinnati. She continued her education at the University of Cincinnati and received her M.Ed. in 1952. She was a sixty-seven year member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, being initiated on March 12, 1950.
She taught for many years in the Southwest Local School District, first at Crosby Elementary, then Harrison Junior High and finished her career at Miamitown Elementary as fifth grade teacher.
Martha married Richard Henry Johnson, who lives at Mason Christian Village on July 31, 1953. They were married for sixty-three years. They have three children, R L (Dorothy) Johnson, Mark S. Johnson, and Kay Ann (Gregory Rouan) Johnson. She has seven grandchildren, Alex, Matt, BJ, Rusty, Cara, Connor, and Mollie and eight great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed knitting and made many beautiful items for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her monthly outings with the “Golden Girls”. She was a longtime member of the Miamitown Church of Christ and Christ’s Church at Mason.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Seven Hills School 5400 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH or Mason Christian Village Benevolence Fund. A memorial/remembrance service is planned for Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of the Mason Christian Village, 411 Western Row Rd. Mason, OH 45040.
