Condolence From: Mike Mercurio
Condolence: “Fiddle’in Down In The Basement”

I was fiddle’in down in the basement
must a been the mouth of June,
I was think’in today was a beautiful day
and I started to hum me a tune.
I called my friend Gord to give me a cord
an with a twang he started to croon,
said he’d round up the boy’s
an get their music music mak’in toys
an we’d write us a tune by noon.
There were banjos, harpsichords, fiddles an guitars
all the boys, they really got down.
They played snare drums, kazoos,
a harp to wail the blues
and a uke for that hillbilly sound.
We was a pick’in an a fiddle’in,
guess just a piddle’in, play’in that uppity tune.
We’ve been play’in that song over an over
ever since half past noon.
We’ve been strum’in an a drum’in
the words they keep a come’in
make’in that bluegrass sound’
ya never know what ya goanna hear
when Gordy and the boys come round.

I was piddle’in around the backyard
must a been the start of spring,
I was think’in today was a beautiful day
and I song I started to sing.
I got a hold of Gorden an he said we’d be record’in
as soon as he could give the fellers a ring,
and if anyone was sober, they’d be right over
and they’d all bring a song to sing.
There were banjos, harpsichords, fiddles an guitars
all the boys, they really got down.
They played snare drums, kazoos,
a harp to wail the blues
and a uke for that hillbilly sound.
We was a pick’in an a fiddle’in,
guess just a piddle’in, play’in that uppity tune.
We’ve been play’in that song over an over
ever since the month of June.
We’ve been strum’in an a drum’in
the words they keep a come’in
make’in that bluegrass sound’
ya never know what ya goanna hear
when Gordy and the boys come round.

I was diddle’in down in the ge-rage
Look’in to resin up my bow.
I was think’in today was a beautiful day
and I headed to the county show.
I telephoned Gordy about four-forty
to see if he’d wanted to go.
Told him “Banjo Joe” was a play’in at the show,
an we’d go to the show to see Joe.
There were banjos, harpsichords, fiddles an guitars
all the boys, they really got down.
They played snare drums, kazoos,
a harp to wail the blues
and a uke for that hillbilly sound.
We was a pick’in an a fiddle’in,
guess just a piddle’in, play’in that uppity tune.
We’ve been play’in that song over an over
ever the month of June.
We’ve been strum’in an a drum’in
the words they keep a come’in
make’in that bluegrass sound’
ya never know what ya goanna hear
when Gordy and the boys come round.

I was middle'in around in the kitchen
must a been half past three,
I was think’in today was a beautiful day
and a melody came to me.
I blew on my harp a perfect G-Sharp
I was really right on key.
I was happy an surprised when Gordo an the guys
showed up and played in harmony with me.
There were banjos, harpsichords, fiddles an guitars
all the boys, they really got down.
They played snare drums, kazoos,
a harp to wail the blues
and a uke for that hillbilly sound.
We was a pick’in an a fiddle’in,
guess just a piddle’in, play’in that uppity tune.
We’ve been play’in that song over an over
ever since the month of June.
We’ve been strum’in an a drum’in
the words they keep a come’in
make’in that bluegrass sound’
ya never know what ya goanna hear.
when Gordy and the boys come round.

Now you drop down my basement anytime that your around,
just follow that sweet foot stomp’in music an it’ll
take you where we can be found.
Their be banjos, harpsichords, fiddles an guitars
all the boys, they’ll really get down.
They’ll play snare drums, kazoos,
a harp to wail the blues
and a uke for that hillbilly sound.
We’ll be a pick’in an a fiddle’in,
guess just a piddle’in, play’in that uppity tune.
We’ve be play’in that song over an over
ever since last past June.
We’ll be strum’in an a drum’in
the words they’ll keep a come’in
make’in that bluegrass sound,
ya never know what ya goanna hear
when Gordy and the boys come round!
