Obituary for Roger D. Dake

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, Roger Dale Dake died peacefully at home in Harrison, Ohio surrounded by his loving family, following a year and a half battle with cancer. He received extensive care and love from both family and friends, of which he had many. Born in 1954 in Scottsburg, Indiana to Doris and Robert D. Dake, Roger spent his formative years in Southern Indiana –never missing a day of elementary, middle or high school. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1977. In 1983, Roger married his best friend Irene ‘Tooty’ McDonough in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together, they raised two adoring sons, Bobby and Dan. Roger was instrumental in the boys’ athletics and served as a coach for both baseball and basketball teams throughout the years -- never missing a game. He was an avid gardener and had a penchant for the outdoors. Successful in his career, Roger invested 36 years in the technical placement industry, spending 32 of those years at Belcan. Roger retired from his executive role in 2016. Roger is survived by his loving wife Tooty and two children, Robert D. Dake (Elizabeth Tuke) of New York, New York and Roger D. Dake 'Dan' (Kristen Chuang) of Bloomington, Indiana, as well as, a soon-to-be born grandchild he lovingly nicknamed ‘Teacup’. Roger is also survived by his mother and father, Doris and Robert D. Dake, sister Melissa ‘Cis’ Reardon (Vern) and in-laws, Denny McDonough (Marilyn) , Maureen Witwer, Richard McDonough (Jayne) , Katie Schwarte (Mike), Tim McDonough (Carolyn, deceased), Mike McDonough (Debbie) , Margaret Wade (David) , Liz Dayter (Paul), Colleen Vitale (Chris) , Eileen McDonough (deceased), Marty McDonough (Veronica) , Brian Miller (Susan), Leslee Ruppenthal (Bryan) and a host of nieces, nephews and their children – all of whom he loved. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 4 pm at Minges Funeral Home, 10385 New Haven Road in Harrison, Ohio. Celebration of Life immediately following the service.
